Wisconsin primaries prove Obama and McCain to be Wisconsin’s most prospective candidates


In the Wisconsin primaries on Tuesday Jan. 19, Barack Obama and John McCain won by considerable amounts. McCain had 55 percent of the vote on the Republican side and Obama with 58 percent on the Democratic side. The lead for Obama gives him his tenth consecutive victory for the primaries and projects him as a leader in the primaries overall. read more


Low fat foods cause more calorie intake


Recent studies suggest that low fat foods are in fact making people fatter. According to consumeraffairs.com, people consume on average 50 percent more calories when eating low fat foods. Many consumers feel it is justified to eat 150 percent of their normal intake because their foods contain slightly less fat. read more


Fidel Castro resigns as Cuban leader; brother said to take over


On Tuesday Feb. 19, Fidel Castro resigned as president of Cuba. His resignation ended the almost half-century rule of Castro, which began in 1959. Upon his resignation, Cuba’s 614-member national assembly chose Castro’s brother, Raul Castro, to rule the nation for the proceeding five years. read more

PHS has an athletic charge for sports and many extracurricular activities have a fee, but the Scripps National Spelling Bee (SNSB) had never charged a fee before the 2007 season. read more


Excessive snowstorms blanket Wisconsin


This winter brought more snow and low temperatures than Northeastern and Southeastern Wisconsin had seen in a long time. The months of December, January and February had more snow than in previous years, and many areas had yearly snowfalls approaching all time records. read more


China’s Olympic boycotts are controversial subject
