NHS Dodgeball raises money for graduation
Story by Emily Connor
On March 4, the PHS National Honor Society chapter hosted the dodge ball tournament in the school gymnasium.
Over the past several years, the dodge ball tournament, one of the many NHS service projects, has become a favored tradition for students at PHS.
“Students have become really involved and really enjoyed the competition [of the NHS dodge ball tournament],” said NHS adviser and PHS math teacher, Jack Daniels.
This year, it cost teams $20 to enter the tournament, and spectators paid $3 to watch. The money raised by the tournament was used to purchase the yellow NHS tassels that

students wear at graduation. This year, the tournament raised about $300, a substantial amount to aid the tassel cost.
Twelve teams, each consisting of about five to eight players, participated in this year’s tournament. Teams competed against one another in order to win the overall competition. All gave themselves creative names, which were used to pair the teams up against one another.
The winners of the competition were all awarded medals. The winning team, “Ripped,” consisted of seniors Dominic Galba and Blake Liermann, juniors Tyler Feldman, Matt Schwister and Zack Suchon and sophomore Adam Entringer.
Teams who participated were encouraged to wear inventive costumes, another part of the NHS dodge ball tournament tradition. There was also an award presented for the best costume. This year, the award was given to seniors Zach Hunter, Matt Pagel, Nick Pingel, Elliot Rauk and Corey Rhyan, of “The Smurfs.”
“The costumes build teams spirit, and they’re just fun. It makes the teams stand out,” said Daniels.
Overall, the tournament received a great turnout and continuing support from PHS. “NHS would like to thank everyone who participated. It [The dodge ball tournament] has always been a great fundraiser from year to year,” added Daniels.
