Success at PHS Prom Bash: Memorable Arabian Night

This year’s prom was on May 5, 2007. It was held at Riverview Middle School because of its nice environment. The dance was at 8:00 p.m. until midnight. If purchased in advance, the tickets were for $10 for one person and $18 for a couple. If purchased at the doors it was $12 for one person and $20 for a couple.

This year the class of 2007 voted on the theme for prom to be Arabian nights. The Riverview cafeteria was decorated as a desert night scene. The desert night scene went great with the Arabian night theme. The class of 2008 voted for the song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith, the food at the dance was a chocolate fountain with different kinds of fruit and punch.

For prom there is the annual king and queen ceremony. There were twelve girls and twelve guys voted to be on the ballot. The Mini King was Jaxsen Schermacher and the Mini Queen was CeCe Huhn. The Prom King was Craig Kendall and Leanna Penkwitz was voted Prom Queen.

The twelve girls that were on the ballot for Prom Queen were Abby Ausloos, Amy Capelle, Liz Granberg, Jaclyn Jaeckels, Lauren Johnson, Marlo Kiela, Katie Klunk, Emily Nowicki, Claire Ohman, Leanna Penkwitz, Chelsea Peterson and Jenny Talen. The nominees for 2007’s Prom King were Trevor Adams, Seth Carreno, Taylor Darr, Ben Dimig, Kevin Feick, Stuart Gavin, Craig Kendall, Noah Pearce, Seth Rooker, Owen Schultz, Josh Thomas and Peter Zlebek.

The junior class voted on whom they wanted to see on the ballot for both Prom King and Prom Queen.

The Prom Committee puts prom together. It consists of whoever is interested, and is filled with volunteers.

The prom committee and any other volunteers did all of the decorating, which was done on Friday May 4, 2007 after school. They worked on decorating for several hours.

Making prom work was full of hardworking volunteers. There were around 20 people in the prom committee, the ten chaperones, and the prom court helped with the clean up.

“Don’t get trashed, come to the after bash” was this years saying for the Prom Bash. It was held after prom in the Riverview gym from midnight until 2 a.m. The prom bash promoted a drug and alcohol free prom and provided an alternative to other parties.

At the Prom Bash there were a lot of chances to win tons of prizes, which were provided by the community. There was at least one prize for everyone there.

Dena Budrecki says, “This was a really great year. The Prom Committee is great and was really organized. I thought the Prom Bash was a great idea. The community was great with providing the prizes for the Prom Bash. This was all around a great year.”
