K8 Explains Internet Photo Etiquette
Story by Kate Murray
The latest trend doesn’t come from Paris, France, nor is this fad about the latest celebrities. Nope, it’s all about you. Well, and me, for when I’m doing it. Yeah that’s right, I’m talking about “blogging.” Whether your blog is for rants against a corrupt government, or to make new friends who like the same sort of jazz as you do, my guess is you have probably posted photos of yourself. I’m also going to take a guess that you might not know about the diverse options that blog photos hold for the individual. That’s all right because I have just the thing to help prevent you from looking like a blogging noob. read more

Eliminate Manipulative Females From Plymouth High School
Story by Hilights Staff
Why are girls so mean? Everyone’s seen the movie Mean Girls and has walked away saying how true it is. Girls do backstab, they do trash talk their friends, and they do plot to steal boys. But the main question is why?! You’re supposed to be friends with people you enjoy being around. If you don’t enjoy being around someone and you spend all of your free time bashing them, why lead them to think that you actually like them? That doesn’t mean that you have to be flat out rude, but at least don’t mock them by pretending to be friends. read more

Hollywood Reveals the Tale of the Blood Diamonds
Story by Jean Brody
I have to admit that prior to Jan. 6 of this year, I knew very little about blood diamonds. All I knew was that diamonds were being mined in Africa, it was dangerous, and that lots of bad stuff was going down. However, on a Saturday night in early January, I traveled to Marcus Cinema with Mollie Overby, Emma Schroeder, and Emma’s parents to see Edward Zwick’s movie, Blood Diamond. read more

Officer Kronberg Addresses Theft at PHS
Story by Officer Kronberg
I would like start out by addressing the issue of theft. We have been dealing with an on-going problem regarding theft from the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms at PHS. It is important that you secure all items in a locked locker when participating in a class or other activities. In a majority of the thefts brought to our attention, the items stolen were not secured in a locker. It is also important to note that the sooner you report the theft, the better chance of finding the perpetrators) in each case. Please secure your items in a locker at all times. With spring coming, if you ride a bicycle to school, please lock it up to the provided bicycle racks at PHS. Just for your information, someone caught stealing in Plymouth can receive a fine of $172.00. read more

Career Day Fails at Teaching About Careers
Story by Casey Mourlam
December 20, 2006 was career day; a day at PHS when many of our student body decided not to show up. Instead they used the day as time to catch up on much needed beauty sleep and Christmas shopping. It is rumored, by some students, that almost 300 people did not show up for the day we were supposed, “to be expanding our knowledge of careers,” but the time we spent at the wonderful PHS was one of the biggest wastes of our time. read more

Contrasting Views Over Homeroom Spawn Debate
Story by Emily Connor
When the second bell rings at 7:40 a.m., all students are required to report to a designated classroom and sit for twenty minutes before their actual classes begin. Frustration arises as most students, myself included, wonder why for twenty minutes (during which they could be catching up on much needed sleep or doing some other productive activity) they are forced to sit and “listen” to the morning announcements and socialize. However, the students show up, because if they don’t, they’ll lose their only exam exemption. Many still decide to not attend and instead, wander the halls aimlessly. Why does PHS require a homeroom when not any work is accomplished, the morning announcements remain unheard, and half of the students don’t even bother coming? read more
